2 Kings 2:9-12

Follow the progression:

v.1 – Gilgal

  • The place of new beginnings
  • The place of “what was”

v.2 – Bethel

  • The place of a vision
  • The place of “what could be!”

v.4 – Jericho

  • The place of great faith
  • The place of “what if?”

v. 6 – Jordan

  • Place of God’s promises
  • Place of what God will do

Elisha says, “I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”

  • The law of inheritance
  • Deuteronomy 21:16, 17
  • When Elisha asked for a double portion, he was asking to inherit something.

What was the spirit of Elijah?  It was to unify, not to divide.

Elijah was the great unifier.  Elijah had a unifying spirit!

Elijah’s relationship with king Ahab:  Elijah did not seem to carry a grudge with him!

Two things that Elisha received when Elijah went up to heaven in that fiery chariot:

1.  The mantle

2.  The spirit

Did Elisha have that same spirit?  YES!

1.  The sons of the prophets

2.  Elisha ministers for, we think, close to six decades!

3.  Elisha even has one miracle after he dies.
