Pastor Dave Clear

“When God promises, God keeps His promises.”

* God’s promises are not deserved.

* Psalm 89 finishes off the third book (of the Psalms).

* Psalm 89 is written by Ethan the Ezrahite.

* Ethan:

1.  He only wrote this one Psalm (under this name).
2.  He was thought to be a cymbal player in the temple orchestra.
3.  He was wise.
4.  He lived during the days of Solomon and Rehoboam.
5.  His name means “firm” – a synonym for “faithful.”

* This Psalm is written after two events:

1.  The division of the kingdom.
2.  Judah is invaded by Shishak, king of Egypt (I Kings 14:25-28).

* Ethan uses the word “faithfulness” seven times in this Psalm.

Three key words:
1.  Faithfulness
2.  Forever
3.  Covenant

* “Psalm of the Davidic covenant Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.”

* It is thought that Ethan changed his name to Jeduthun, which means “the Lord is steady.”
