Hammond Youth Conference 2014 Recap

First Baptist Church had fourteen teenagers attend the Nationwide Youth Conference in Hammond, Indiana from Tuesday through Thursday, July 15-17, 2014. This year’s theme was entitled, “Called.” The main speakers for the conference were Pastor Wilkerson, host pastor, and Pastor Mike Ray (Hopewell Baptist Church), and Brother Scott Pauley (The Crown College of the Bible). These are great opportunities for young people to be under the sound of additional preaching in a conference setting. We praise the Lord for decisions made during the conference.

We left on Tuesday morning about 7:35 a.m. with just one bus. We once again had Brother Nate Otterdahl drive for us. Mr. and Mrs. Von Wald also attended the conference once again. The weather was incredibly comfortable throughout the three days right at 65 to 70 degrees. We arrived at our hotel and had a little time to get ready for the first service at 6 p.m. that evening. During the first service, Bro. Brian Hasse and Bro. Scott Pauley spoke. There was a pizza break in between the services.

On Wednesday the youth workers enjoyed hearing Bro. Pauley, Pastor Wilkerson, and Brother Eddie Lapina. The young people enjoyed hearing Pastor Freddy De Anda and Pastor Mike Ray. Everyone had lunch at noon, then returned for a 1 p.m. service with Pastor Wilkerson. After the afternoon session at 3:30 p.m. we went back to the hotel, changed, and then departed for Hyles-Anderson College for the games, competitions, program, and fireworks through about 9:45 p.m. that evening. The young people enjoyed a wonderful time. After the fireworks, we spent some time with the folks at Gospel Light Baptist Church from Minneapolis and both of our churches went to Steak and Shake and enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship.

On Thursday morning, the youth workers enjoyed another session, and Pastor Mike Ray, Bro. Ricky Torres, and Bro. Ray Young spoke. The teenagers enjoyed Bro. Sammy Roberson,  and Bro. Chris Teft. There was a lunch break at noon. We finished the conference with hearing Dr. Stuart Mason, President of Hyles-Anderson College, and Pastor Mike Ray. The finale to the conference was after the dinner break where Brother Scott Pauley preached.

We left the church after 8:30 p.m. and stopped at the South Holland Oasis to gas the bus up, eat, and change. Mr. Graves started driving and did so for just a little over three hours. Brother Nate finished the trip and we pulled in to the parking lot at church at 6 a.m.

Praise the Lord for the work He is doing in the hearts of our young people.
