Our team then played Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. against Mankato. We defeated them 41-24 which placed us in a semifinal game against Lake a Region On Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The chapel time was held just after 6 p.m. in the auditorium.

On Saturday morning we left the school at 6:45 a.m. We then played against Lake Region and came up short sending us to the third place game. We played Woodcrest at 3 p.m. and defeated them to win the third place trophy. Ashley received all-tournament honors.

A thank you to the players, fans, and coaches for a wonderful tournament. Thank you to St. Francis and their staff for hosting a great tournament as well.

On Sunday evening, January 12, 2014 in the 6 p.m. service, Coach Larson gave the following report before the ladies’ team presented the team trophy:

The FBS Varsity Girls’ basketball team participated in the Lady Patriot Basketball Tournament in St. Francis, MN this past Friday and Saturday.

Our first opponent was Grace Christian School from Mankato, MN. The Crusaders took control midway through the first half and never looked back. This game allowed for valuable floor time for the entire team. The Crusaders won with a final score of 41-24.

Saturday morning began early with our first game at 9 a.m. The opposition was a familiar foe – Lake Region Christian School from Baxter, MN, a team that in recent years, we have had several intense contests with. This game was to be no exception. After nine minutes of play, the score (6 to 7) was reflective of the battle. At that point we were unable to match their deep bench, and Lake Region began to pull away on their march toward becoming the eventual tournament champions.

Our second game on Saturday was for third place. This match-up was with another rival – Woodcrest Baptist Academy of Fridley, MN. The tone of the contest was set from the start. Ashley Graves controlled the jump ball, tipping it to Amber Flynn, who then turned and went to the basket for a lay-up, giving us the lead that we never relinquished. This was a tightly played game with the Crusader’s lead fluctuating between three and seven points most of the game. Each time the Warriors threatened, we were able to hold them off and maintain our lead, eventually securing the third place trophy with a final score of 37 to 29.

The team displayed heart, determination, and a good spirit as they played and fellowshipped with other MACS schools this weekend.

Senior Ashley Graves was selected by the tournament coaches to the All-Tournament team. It is our privilege to present the third place trophy from the Lady Patriots basketball tournament.
