FBS Homecoming 2012

First Baptist School held its annual homecoming festivities on Friday, September 21, 2012. This was a cool windy day, but the rain actually held back all the way into the late late evening as we stepped on the bus to go back to the school after the bonfire. Praise the Lord for great weather.

We started at 1:10 p.m. during the school day with a Yearbook Signing Party. Mrs. Tidrick, who now serves as the Yearbook Advisor along with her staff, took the responsibility of handling all of the logistics of getting yearbooks to everyone during this time including the elementary grades. The secondary met in the Johnson Chapel for the entire 7th hour as wide-eyed young people viewed the most recent issue of the Excalibur for the very first time. The 2011-2012 edition that was handed out was dedicated to Mr. Abel Miranda. The young people signed his yearbook, and it will be mailed to him.

At 2 p.m. the entire school converged into the gymnasium where we held our annual Pep Rally. Mrs. Nicholson directed the Pep Band as many of them lined up on the mezzanine of the gymnasium. Afterward, we announced the lineups of both the soccer and volleyball teams along with the coaching staff. The winner of the spirit stick for elementary was the fourth grade. The winner of the secondary spirit stick was the junior class.

The junior varsity volleyball game started at 4 p.m. The battle continued into the third game with the Crusaders being victorious (2-1). The varsity ladies’ volleyball team lost to Lake Region 3-1. The soccer team won 3-2 with the last goal credited to Nakwon for a penalty kick he made. See the video below showing the penalty kick.

After the games we loaded the bus and went to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Mellett. We enjoyed a great time of fellowship around the bonfire while eating hot dogs and chips and drinking pop. A big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Mellett, Mrs. Tidrick, and Mr. and Mrs. Dudek for helping out with food. Thanks also to the staff who attended the bonfire. Brother Nate Otterdahl, thank you for driving the bus. Parents, thank you for allowing your young people to attend.

We had a wonderful time of testimonies lasting well over an hour long. Our high school young people shared some things from their heart and were transparent with their peers and staff. While testimonies about lost loved ones, appreciation for staff, involvement in church and school, and personal struggles with various things were shared, the young people were tender with some tears shed! The young people anticipate a wonderful school year, and we believe it has gotten off to a great start. There was an appreciation for First Baptist School, and it was evident in the testimonies on this special evening. All of our hearts were blessed. What a special time for us to remember for a long time to come. Thank you very much to everyone who attended. We nearly had perfect attendance with our high school on this night.

Mr. McKinney spoke on Luke 22:31 which states, “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:” He reminded us that Satan is working hard to destroy the lives of the students. And, even after graduation, He will still continue to do so. Thank you, Mr. McKinney, for your preparation and the challenge to our young people.

Christy, Ashley, Cassie, and Laurie sang the song, “Always the Same” at the end of the night. We loaded the bus and headed back to school.

We closed the evening out with some volleyball in the gymnasium and had a wonderful time of fellowship. Thank you again, young people, staff, and everyone who made Homecoming a very special event.
