On Sunday, November 6 through Friday, November 11, 2011, nine students along with Mr. Helder and Mr. Graves took to the roads to Florida and Tennessee as their destinations. This trip marked the third college trip in the last three years and sending us to the Southeast visiting Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida and The Crown College of the Bible in Powell, Tennessee this year.

This trip by far tested the patience of all who attended. The drive was long, but each young person displayed a spirit of patience along many miles of travel. We put in approximately 10 to 11 hours leaving on Sunday, November 6 after the Sunday morning service. We pulled out of the parking lot around 1:00 p.m. Attending were Meg, Christian, Liz, Kevin, Mitchell, Michael, Daved, Jeff, and Scott. Mr. Helder and Mr. Graves were the chaperones on the trip.

The trip started on Sunday, we ate Little Ceasars Pizza on the road. We left around 1 p.m. on this day. Our destination was St. Louis, Missouri. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Chesterfield, Missouri which is a western suburb of St. Louis. We arrived around 10:00 p.m. and had devotions together in the hotel room before bedtime.

On Monday morning we left Chesterfield, Missouri around 7:45 a.m. Our destination was Pensacola, Florida. Yes, this was the day that we enjoyed Chick-Fil-A. Upon arrival to Pensacola, Caleb from the information desk was s a great help to us. Our entire group was briefed and given all the information we needed. Everyone had their dorm assignments and Mr. Helder and I stayed in the campus housing area.

We met for breakfast on Tuesday morning, and the students attended several classes mainly in the administration building. Chapel was also in the morning at the Crowne Centre and Mr. Don Smith preached. At Pensacola you are allowed, when visiting, to go in and out of the classes quietly. So, this was a help for many of our students to get to see several classes on one day since some classes are double time and meet for 1 1/2 hours.

Following the visitation of classes we ate at the dining hall for lunch and then had a tour at 1 p.m. with Abby starting at the information desk (which started with a video presentation). We had a tour for about an hour and a half. Afterward the young people enjoyed some basketball and going to Pensacola Beach. We met for supper and Mr. Graves enjoyed some time with Rebekah, Leah, Treston, and Hillary at the Palms Grill just after the Lady Eagles’ Volleyball Game. The basketball team also played afterward and this was enjoyed by some as well.

That evening the young people took in some activities at the center with bowling, billiards, rock climbing, etc. It was a fun time.

On Wednesday morning, we ate breakfast and then left for Powell, Tennessee. We arrived around 5:40 p.m. or so and ate right away in the dining hall. We quickly finished and were escorted to our dorm areas to change quickly for Wednesday night church. Dr. Evans, the Dean of Students, was a real blessing to us and showed us where to go every step of the way.

Pastor Sexton preached a great message at the Temple Baptist Church where there seemed to be around 1500 in attendance. Following church we enjoyed some time at Steak ‘n Shake and were accompanied by Daniel, one of the college students from New Hampshire. He proved to be a real blessing for our group in showing us around. After some fellowship and delicious food at Steak ‘n Shake, we went back to the dorms because we needed to be packed and ready to leave the dorms at 6:20 a.m. the following morning.

The next morning we met for breakfast and then checked in at the administrative office at The Crown College of the Bible. Mrs. Terry Toftem was a real help to our group and had everything planned out and ready to go. The young people were in the office for a few minutes to fill out some paperwork. We then attended college classes all morning. We had our tour from Brother Pauley who is the vice president of the college. The tour included a video presentation of The Crown College of the Bible.

Following lunch in the dining hall, we took in a college choir class for a few minutes, then went on to change out of their uniform clothes into some traveling clothes. We made the trip to Indiana and got in around 10 p.m. The two ladies stayed with Pastor and Mrs. Garcia and their family (serves as assistant pastor at First Baptist in Lowell), and the guys stayed in the Prophet’s Chamber. Mr. Graves stayed with his mom and dad who live just a few minutes away from the church.

We got up the next morning and enjoyed a delicious breakfast by Mr. and Mrs. Graves (Mr. Graves’ parents), and then headed out around 9 a.m. We made it back to Rosemount, Minnesota about 5 p.m.

We praise the Lord for safety, and we are grateful these young people have the opportunity to see these colleges first hand and get a feel for the hospitality, warmth, friendliness, facilities, etc for what a college has to offer. If you get an opportunity to go on a college trip, please consider attending, young people.

Lord-willing, we will look to travel to West Coast Baptist College and Golden State Baptist College the first full week of November in 2012. The college trips are open to students in the 10th through 12th grade. We also look to visit at least three colleges in November of 2013 located in the Midwest. We have started a three-year rotating trip starting with California in 2009, the Midwest trip in 2010, and the Southeast Trip here in 2011. We look to continue to rotate these trips as long as there is interest from the young people and their parents.

Those that have been able to attend have been to classes, chapel (when available), and have enjoyed the experience and feel of being at the facilities of at least seven college campuses.

Please pray for our young people as they search for not only what college to attend but also for what God’s will for their life will be!
