FBS Beginner Band – An Open Letter from our Band Director!

BEGINNER BAND STARTS MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2011

In conjunction with our Monday night PTF meeting, Groth Music will be here to present instruments for rental and answer any questions you may have. They will be be prepared to sign up your child for band. Miss Cyndi Clear is prepared to teach the young people a variety of instruments. Here’s the plan in a “nutshell.”

  • You can come prepared to pay (credit card or check) between $40-$65, depending on the instrument, which will cover securing a brand new instrument for a trial period of 4 complete months for your son or daughter.
  • The instruments will arrive later that week. (We understand there is Easter Break in there.)
  • Miss Clear will start beginner band lessons, free of charge, to your child the week of April 25. These free lessons will continue through the rest of the school year (once each week during school).
  • Starting in the summer, Miss Clear will charge only $10/lesson (4 per month is suggested) and will have those lessons here at the school. (During the summer, you would pay for lessons, but NOT be paying for the instrument rental since you already paid for the 4-month trial).
  • Once school starts in the fall, you would begin paying the instrument rental (since the trial will expire), and Miss Clear would continue lessons with your child, but those lessons DURING SCHOOL would become free again! We have purposefully worked at trying to make this affordable so that for the next year you would not have to pay both an instrument rental and a lesson at the same time.
  • PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and witness your child develop a life-long ability and talent for the Lord! This is for all 4th through 12th grade students!

The above notes are a synopsis of what we are excited about doing. Miss Cyndi Clear provides some details in a letter of her own (with some repeated information) which is listed below:

Dear Parents,

Here at First Baptist School, we are dedicated to the development of our students. Therefore, we are making it easier than ever for our students to learn how to play instruments!  We are teaming up with Groth Music to bring instruments into your home at a minimal cost to you.  You will be able to rent an instrument from Groth Music for just $40-$65 for the first four months! (Price depends on your choice of instrument.)  After the introductory 4-month period is over, you can set up monthly payments until the instrument is paid off, or look for a used instrument to buy.  We are excited to announce that there will be NO CHARGE FOR LESSONS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR!

Various studies have shown that children who play instruments are able to retain and recall more information, have better hand and eye coordination, and have better concentration than those children who do not play instruments.  It is a proven fact that music lowers the heart rate and blood pressure and helps children think ahead and visualize.

We strongly encourage your child to take private lessons during the summer. Many places will charge anywhere between $15-$30 per 30 minute lesson. At FBS, we will be offering private, 30 minute lessons for the low price of just $10 per lesson. We have done our best to ensure that you will not have to pay for both an instrument AND lessons at the same time!

A representative from Groth Music will be at our school on Monday, April 18th after the PTF meeting. You will be able to take care of the rental process that evening.  The instruments will be delivered to the school later on that week, so your child will be able to start taking lessons beginning the following week. This means that you will have an entire 5 weeks of absolutely free lessons before the price for summer lessons kicks in!

Your child will have the opportunity to put what he/she is learning in lessons to good use in our band program. Your child will perform at our 3 annual school programs. We look forward to working with you and your child in the coming years as they learn to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord!”
