First Baptist Church and School hosted a Midwest College Tour Trip on November 9-12, 2010 for nineteen teenagers. The young people enjoyed the experience as we visited Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana; Providence Baptist College in Elgin, Illinois; and Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin.

We pulled out of our parking lot at 8:30 a.m. with 3 chaperones (myself, Brother Erik McKay, and Mrs. Tammy Welch). There were 19 teenagers (9 girls and 10 guys). Unfortunately, about 45 minutes into the trip our bus ran out of gas just before Zumbrota, Minnesota. We appreciate Marcia from Apple Valley, who stopped and took Jaclyn and I to the gas station. Thank you also, Mr. Helder, for stopping by as well and getting us to the gas station. While the young people waited, Bro. Erik gave devotions and the teenagers gave testimonies while on the bus waiting. Making Memories!

We arrived at Hyles-Anderson College and were met by Bro. Pat Cook, one of the college representatives. The ladies checked into the dormitories, and the guys went over to City Baptist to stay there. Bro. Jonathan Clear gave us a tour of Hyles-Anderson and explained the Advantage Program where junior and senior high school students can take classes online for early credit for college, and then we played basketball in the gymnasium for quite some time. The exercise was a welcome treat after being in the bus all day. The ladies stayed in the dorm and the guys went to Denny’s for some food and fellowship.

Wednesday morning, everyone attended classes and chapel at Hyles-Anderson College. Bro. Bob Hooker who is the Executive Vice-President, spoke in chapel about the power of God’s love toward us in relation to how it will keep us going through the hard times of life. We had pizza at the Hylander Grill after chapel. The young people enjoyed some video games and some fellowship with several of the college representatives.

We departed for Providence Baptist College on Wednesday afternoon and arrived there at approximately 4:30 p.m. We checked into the hotel/dormitory style rooms there and had supper in the cafeteria at 5 p.m. The young people have especially enjoyed Foosball and ping pong. We went to Northwest Bible Baptist Church for the 7 p.m. evening service. Dr. Ken Anderson preached as Pastor Gomez was out of town. The students then came back for some more Foosball and ping pong. Mr. Graves was able to spend some time with Bro. Kevin and Elizabeth (Reinhardt) Szwarga after the service for a little while.

Thursday morning, our teenagers sat in on the classes at Providence Baptist College. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Providence has some adjunct faculty that come and teach at the college, namely Pastor Anglea. Students have an array of classes to choose from. The guys specifically sat in church education first hour, taught by Pastor Anglea, and the ladies sat in Women of the Bible, taught by Mrs. Joyce Anglea.

Following classes, Bro. Jake Robideau, our representative who did a great job, gave us a tour of the college. Following the tour, we had chapel and Pastor Houston from Central Baptist Church spoke in chapel about how the Holy Spirit’s leading in our life as a Christian. After chapel, we ate lunch in the cafeteria and then were shown the dormitories after we were done eating. We loaded the bus and departed for Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

We arrived at Maranatha around 4:15 p.m. The young people checked into the dormitories upon arrival. We at supper at the cafeteria at 5 p.m. We relaxed some afterward and then attended the play, “The Taming of the Shrew.”

The following morning we had breakfast in the cafeteria and attended classes at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. They also attended chapel, and the president of the college, Dr. Marriott, preached. We received a tour of the college and many of the young people had appointments with particular professors and staff relating to the student’s interest in a particular major.

We departed at 2:15 p.m. on Friday for Rosemount. We pulled into the parking lot in Rosemount at 8:41 p.m.

We appreciate Bro. Erik McKay and Mrs. Tammy Welch who helped out as chaperones on the trip. Praise the Lord for great weather and for many miles of safety. We are grateful for the nineteen teenagers who were able to not only attend classes and chapel at each college but to get a spirit of what each college is all about. Thank you, young people, for attending. And thank you, parents and guardians, for allowing your young person to attend.
