On Friday night, June 4, 2010, sixteen seniors graduated from First Baptist School. In the one hour and forty minute service, the audience witnessed a spectacular time of singing, gift-giving, honoring, preaching, and a much more.

Miss Palpant led our band in “Pomp and Circumstance” as each senior went down the aisle. Our attendants this year were D’Andrea, Eno, Leah, and Bethany. Pastor Taylor was our commencement speaker for the evening. The seniors each year pick their own congregational music for the graduation service. This class chose the following songs sung in this order: “To God Be the Glory,” “Come Thou Fount,” and “Take My Life and Let It Be.” Other specials included an ensemble put together by Mr. McKinney. They sang, “Be the One” arranged by John E. Coates, and the commencement choir sang, “The Artist” by Craig Courtney. A media presentation was shown that was almost 14 minutes in length which included an audio clip of each senior thanking those who have made their journey special. The presentation concluded with the song, “I Will Walk the Way of the Cross.”

The Kopp Scholarship Foundation established by Lee and Barbara Kopp awarded scholarships to four participants on this special evening. Molly and Brent received a $250 scholarship. Ethan received a $500 scholarship. And Dexter Wilson received a $1000 scholarship.

Mr. Graves announced the co-salutatorians, Brent and Ethan. Both of these men gave speeches as did Nick. Nick was the valedictorian for the Class of 2010. Pastor Clear introduced Pastor Paul Taylor who is the senior pastor at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Minneapolis. He did a great job preaching for us and challenged our seniors specifically.

Mr. Norm Taylor, the chairman of our deacon board, prayed a prayer of dedication for the Class of 2010.

Miss Palpant led the band in “Onward, Christian Soldiers” (arranged by Sullivan and Ployhar) as each senior closed the ceremony by receiving a rose and giving it to their mother. Each senior then congratulated and thanked their mom, dad, or guardian.

The graduated seniors went to the parking lot immediately following graduation and traditionally threw their caps into the air, but not before many family and friends were dismissed to be able to both witness this tradition and take pictures. They formed a receiving line afterward as hundreds who were in attendance congratulated each one. Orlando and David had their open house after graduation in the gymnasium.

The Class of 2010 had as its class verse the following: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. This verse is from Matthew 5:16. The class motto for this year is “See the need; take the lead.”

We praise the Lord for each of our graduating seniors. We will pray for you and wish each one of you well. May God bless your lives as you prepare for what He has for you in the future.

The graduation service was professionally videotaped by ViDeyo Arts in southern Minnesota and is free (one copy) to each graduating family. Additional copies may be purchased. A special thank you to Ryan Mundy for helping with the audio recordings. Thank you to Austen Taylor for operating the sound.
