On Thursday through Saturday, February 25-27, 2010, the FBS varsity girls’ basketball team competed in the Minnesota Association of Christian School’s Tournament. Going in as the fifth seed after defeating Victory Christian of Rochester, Minnesota on Monday, the girls played Heritage Christian from Karlstad, Minnesota in the first round on Thursday, February 25, 2010. The Patriots of Heritage avenged their January loss to the Crusaders in a game that was nothing like the first contest between these teams. Both teams shot abysmally in a defensive struggle as the Crusaders shot only 20% and lost 31 to 26. In this game verses Heritage Christian, Elizabeth had 9 points and 4 rebounds, Bethany had 6 points and 13 rebounds along with 7 blocks and 4 steals. Cheyenne had 5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 9 steals.

Game 2 of the tournament was played against Prior Lake Christian. In the third meeting of the season between these squads, the girls displayed a much better touch (shooting 40%), and the Crusaders earned the opportunity to play on Saturday in the consolation championship by winning 51 to 40. In this game, Elizabeth had 14 points and 4 steals, Bethany had 12 points and 15 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Cheyenne had 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.

The third game was played against Owatonna Christian School. The Crusader ladies took control early and were never seriously threatened in the second half. This allowed everyone to get playing time and tournament experience; the Crusaders won with a final score was 52-32. Elizabeth had 16 points and 3 assists, Bethany had 14 points and 13 rebounds and 9 blocked shots. Jaclyn had 7 points and 9 rebounds.

This game completed their season with a winning record of 12-7 and allowed them to repeat as the consolation champions this year. Graduating seniors this year included Molly and Won Young. A picture is posted of these two. Photo Courtesy: Mr. Waits

Individual MACS awards earned this year were the following:

  • Elizabeth H., a freshman, was selected All-Conference for the regular season.
  • Cheyenne W., a freshman, was selected to the All-Tournament team.
  • Bethany B., a junior, was selected to the All-Tournament team.

It was a pleasure and honor to present in Sunday evening’s service (February 28, 2010) the 2009-2010 MACS Consolation Championship Trophy.
